Fine Art vs Matte vs Semi Glossy poster paper

All poster guides

Fine Art, Matte and Semi Glossy change the paper your poster is printed on. They do not change the artwork. Here is how to compare the three options in our rolled-poster range without relying on a screen mockup.

Compare the paper options

PaperWeight for this rangeWhat to consider
Fine Art285 g/m²The heaviest option in this poster range; choose it when paper weight is important to you.
Matte200 g/m²A matte surface when you prefer low sheen. Frame glass can still reflect light.
Semi Glossy180 g/m²A semi-gloss surface if you prefer a visible sheen. Consider the lighting where you will hang it.

These weights apply to the JONDO rolled-poster specification used by this range. Other products and print providers can use different stocks, so check the individual product description. A heavier sheet is not automatically a sharper print, and “Fine Art” is the option name, not a claim that the image is a hand-painted original.

Start with the place where you will hang it

If a lamp or a window faces the print, consider Matte. If you like some surface sheen, compare Semi Glossy. If the feel and weight of the sheet matter most, compare Fine Art. These are practical starting points rather than a quality ranking; the right choice depends on your taste and the room.

Remember the frame as well. A matte print behind ordinary reflective glass can still show reflections. Choosing the paper alone does not determine the appearance of the framed result.

Why the preview can look the same

For this poster range, the print partner supplies size-specific mockups but shares them across the paper finishes. The preview can therefore show a different crop or format when you choose a size, while Fine Art, Matte and Semi Glossy can use the same image. The preview is not a photograph of the selected paper’s texture or sheen. Screen brightness, colour settings and room lighting also affect how a print appears.

Check these four things before ordering

  • Confirm the paper finish in the selection and order summary.
  • Check the size and orientation; a 5 × 7 inch print is not the same shape as a 6 × 8 inch print.
  • Check whether a frame is included. Rolled posters in this range are unframed.
  • Check the complete price and delivery estimate before payment.

Compare physical dimensions in our poster size guide and calculator. Then browse posters or ask a product question before you choose.
